BEE READY FOR CHANGE
National ticketing solution – Motu Move
Motu Move is a ticketing and payment system coming to New Zealand that will provide easy, consistent ways to pay for buses, trains and ferries. Motu Move provides new ways to pay for public transport making it easier to use.
- New ways to pay for public transport in Aotearoa
- Simply tag on and off with your chosen card or device
- Proven technology
- Safe and convenient
- Use on bus, train and ferry
- National system, local fares
Motu Move has been created through the National Ticketing Solution programme which is a partnership between NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and 13 Public Transport Agencies across the country. Having a single national solution provides the country with better technology at a lower cost than we can with the current regional systems.
Each region will continue to manage their own fares, timetables, journey planning and transport operators.
When Motu Move rolls out across New Zealand you can choose from:
- contactless debit or credit card or device
- Prepaid Motu Move card
- pre-buy a ticket.
No transaction fees for contactless cards.
All payment methods will have the same fare.
Add concessions to any card or device.

For now, keep using your Bee Cards and keep an eye out for updates here or on your local public transport website for plans to bring Motu Move to your region.

What happens to my Bee Card?
When the Bee Card payment and ticketing solution ends in each region, you will not be able to use Bee Cards, the value on them, nor tickets issued by that council anywhere the Bee Card payment and ticketing solution still operates. You will instead be able to switch to other payment methods like a contactless credit or debit card or the new prepaid Motu Move card.
Will I be able to get a refund for any remaining balance?
When Motu Move is closer to rolling out in your region, we would recommend running down the balance on your Bee Card to avoid any inconvenience. Refunds may be granted and more information will be released about refunds closer to the launch in your region.
